Atlanta cafe launches formula donation campaign

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – In Metro Atlanta, the community is also working together to make sure families get what they need, while they wait for those shipments to hit the shelves here.

At Lenox Village on Lenox Road NE, the message is: “Take what you need and leave what you can” to help those looking for formula

“My cousin, she just had a baby recently,” Trinity said. “We never thought something like this could happen; it is very alarming.

The shortage across the United States is affecting so many families here, who are struggling to feed their babies.

As Trinity orders coffee from Garnet Gal’s cafe and bakery, she notices a donation box in the corner of the cafe.

You can drop off or pick up any unopened, unexpired powdered formula. And it’s free.

“It reminded me of when my son was a baby. I struggled with breastfeeding. I had to use several different types of formulas,” said Pat Azogu, owner of Garnet Gal cafe and bakery.

The reaction has been positive.

“Online, it’s been a mix. I’ve had people say, ‘We have a formula, can we bring it?’ said Azogu. “I’ve also had people reach out to me and say, ‘Do you have, for example, Similac Sensitive, because I desperately need it.
